This political drama series delves into the inner workings of Atlantis Cable News (ACN), a fictional cable news network. The season follows anchor Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) and his team as they strive to produce high-quality journalism amidst corporate pressures, personal conflicts, and political challenges. The season begins with Will McAvoy's controversial speech at a university debate, where he criticizes the notion of America being the greatest country in the world. This event sets the stage for significant changes in his news program. After his former executive producer departs with most of the team, ACN's president Charlie Skinner hires Mackenzie McHale (Emily Mortimer), Will's ex-girlfriend and a seasoned journalist, as the new executive producer. Mackenzie brings her own team, including Jim Harper (John Gallagher Jr.), to revamp the show with a focus on integrity and truth rather than ratings.
