Blue Heelers (season 5)

Blue Heelers season 5 is the fifth season of the Australian police drama series that aired in 1998 on the Seven Network. The season contains 41 episodes and premiered on 24 February 1998 airing on Wednesday nights at 8:30 PM. The season concluded on 25 November 1998. The show moved to Wednesday nights making way for All Saints on Tuesdays. Ratings dipped but the season still finished as the number 2 show for the year with 2240000 viewers in the five cities. The season continued to follow police officers at Mount Thomas police station with Senior Sergeant Tom Croydon in charge. Constable Maggie Doyle and Constable PJ Hasham remained key characters while Detective Senior Sergeant Nick Flanagan continued his role. The season dealt with crimes and social issues affecting the rural Mount Thomas community including murder suspects and missing evidence. Storylines explored the personal lives of the officers showing their relationships and the challenges of police work in a small town. One storyline involved Nick's father getting caught with a mysterious man at the pub. Another plot involved a vital piece of videotape evidence going missing from the station forcing Tom to face the unpleasant prospect that someone within the station might be involved. The season maintained the series reputation for realistic portrayal of police work while developing character arcs.
