Cristobal Balenciaga was born in a small Spanish town to a family of a fisherman and a seamstress. At the age of 12 he became an apprentice tailor, at the age of 24 he opened his first atelier in San Sebastian, and at the age of 42 he opened the Balenciaga haute couture house in Paris, where Queen Victoria of Spain, Queen Fabiola of Belgium, Princess Grace of Monaco and many other noble ladies and world stars dressed.
