The Winter King (season 1)

The series is an adaptation of the Arthurian legend and tells the story of post-Roman Britain in the Dark Ages, a kingdom where the warlord Arthur has been banished and Merlin has disappeared, where the Saxons are invading and a defenseless child king sits on the throne. The viewer is greeted by the vain and unpopular Lancelot; the ambitious and conniving Guinevere; Merlin, who is more druid than magician; and Mordred, Uther's grandson and rightful heir to the throne. The story is told by the old Saxon monk Derfel Cadarn for Igraine, the young queen, long after Arthur's death. The literary basis for the first season was Bernard Cornwell's novel The Winter King.rn
