Jake and the Fatman (season 2)

The second season of the 1987 TV series Jake and the Fatman moves the action from Los Angeles to Hawaii where district attorney J. L. Fatman MacCoy begins a new chapter in his career in tropical paradise. After a two hour pilot episode the characters relocate to Honolulu and Fatman gets the position of assistant district attorney with prospects to lead the office. His private investigator partner Jake Styles continues working with him solving crimes and working undercover. The office gains a new employee Derek Mitchell an inexperienced assistant prosecutor who cannot replace Jake in dangerous missions. The season consists of ten episodes due to the writers strike that year and includes stories such as Wish You Were Here I'll Never Smile Again and Snowfall. The Hawaii location adds brightness to criminal investigations with tropical landscapes and exotic atmosphere while maintaining the tension of legal drama. Unlike earlier seasons the action now takes place against palm trees and ocean which refreshes the series format after Magnum P.I. and Hawaii Five-O departed. Fatman continues handling cases with the same roughness and willingness to bend rules while Jake remains his reliable partner fighting crime. The tropical setting provides stunning backdrops for courtroom drama and street investigations as the duo tackles murder corruption and conspiracy cases throughout the Hawaiian islands.
