Steven Hill plays Dan Briggs in the first season; Peter Graves plays Jim Phelps in the remaining seasons. As a hallmark of the series, Briggs or Phelps receive instructions on a recording that then self-destructs, accompanied by Lalo Schifrin's theme music. In 1988 and 1990, the series aired on ABC, with only Graves remaining in the cast. It aired on the CBS network from September 1966 to March 1973.rn
